Redfall by Arkane Studios gets 60 FPS update

On October 6, 2023, over five months after its launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC, Redfall finally has a 60 FPS update to the game. As part of update 2 for the game, Redfall on console has received a Performance Mode. This also includes several new features to the game as Arkane has promised amid a plagued launch for the game that they would “make things right.”

There are now stealth takedowns, accessibility options, new encounters, more enemies, improved PC performance, performance improvements to hero abilities, weapons, and systems in the game.

Update 1 launched in June introducing updates to gameplay, combat, AI, environment, stability, multiplayer, accessibility, UI, and various bug fixes.

Redfall launched with a frame rate capped at 30 FPS while trailers had showcased the shooter running at 60 FPS. The game ran at 30 fps at 4K resolution on Xbox Series X. While on Xbox Series S the game ran at 30 fps at 1440p. Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda Softworks announced this shortcoming just a month before the game launched.

Redfall was the first Xbox first party title to hit the $70 price tag. It is also on Xbox Game Pass.

Redfall was definitely a game I was excited for that I have decided to wait to see what Arkane can do with this project to make sure it aligns with what consumers were expecting. I will give it a try at some point but sadly I am in no rush with better games to play at the moment.
This once again falls under the No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, etc. umbrella of games that launch underwhelming or with false promises, have to be fixed over the coming years. This sets a bad precedent that videogames can be fixed in post. While I want this game to become the best it can be, I doubt it will be able to overcome its failure at launch even if it is able to become an incredible game. It is hard to beat that negative press at launch and gamers are reluctant to give second chances. I hope in the future that studios and publishers will realize not to rush games or release them half baked hoping to fix them later, it’s hard to beat that negative reaction in a post launch situation.

Will you give Redfall a second chance? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
